Friday Fun: Songs I’m Obsessed With Right Now

Seriously, just ask my neighbors (who probably hate me right now). I am completely obsessed with these songs. I cannot stop listening to them.

Song #1: Wild Ones by Flo Rida, featuring Sia

I love Sia so much. I love pop music that makes me dance. This song is perfection.

Song #2: Domino by Jessie J

I dance every time this comes on.

Yes, even at the gym. I’d probably be embarrassed if I wasn’t so busy having a good time.

Song #3: I Won’t Give Up by Jason Mraz

Bringing it down a bit with this one. It’s so beautiful. My friend Whitney sent me this. She knows me so well! She and I used to sing along to Jason Mraz in the car back when we were in high school, which feels… REALLY far away. Eesh.

And finally…

Song #4: Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars

I didn’t like this song at first, when Mark told me to listen to it. However, I now think it’s one of the most hauntingly beautiful songs, ever.

I cannot wait for The Hunger Games movie to come out! Can. Not. WAIT!

Maroon 5, Train & Gavin DeGraw

This past Monday, I went to the Hollywood Bowl again.

This time, I was going to see two of my favorite bands and a musician I like quite a bit — Maroon 5, Train and Gavin DeGraw.

I knew this would be a real treat, but I don’t think I knew just how much of a treat it would be. These guys all put on incredible concerts. And it was long! It started at 7pm (though I was about 20 minutes late) and didn’t end until after 11pm. There were hardly any breaks between the acts, too. It was actually pretty seamless.

I went with a mixed group of friends — both people from work and other bloggers (specifically, Katherine and Kelley again!). Katherine, Chris and I went separately (Chris and I were running late at work and Katherine was kind enough to drive us there).

Since we were late (Hollywood traffic at rush hour is no fun), we missed most of Gavin DeGraw, but we made up for it by getting beers (well, I didn’t, but they did) and acting super cool on our trek up to our seats.

You know how we do.

Once we got to our seats…

…We met up with Jodi, Vanessa and Rachel on one side…

… and Kelley and Irving on the other!

We caught the tail end of Gavin DeGraw, but we only heard two songs.

Fortunately, one of them was the one Katherine and I most wanted to hear — “I Don’t Want To Be.”

Chris, not so into the music of the night, made lots of jokes.

Between acts, I broke out my go-to dinner for the Hollywood Bowl — that same salad goat cheese & red pepper salad from TJ’s!

So good.

Soon, it got dark and TRAIN came on!

I was so excited to see them. I love all of their music (not just the singles — I own every album!), but I most NEEDED to hear “Meet Virginia,” which is one of my favorite songs of all time. Happily, they delivered. 🙂

They also sang a big crowd favorite, of course — “Hey, Soul Sister.” (Terrible quality, sorry).

And that’s Katherine you can hear singing, by the way. Actually, you can hear Katherine singing in just about all of the videos.

Train sang all of the big hits and a few other songs. I was thrilled.

Next up… the main event! MAROON 5! I also own all of their albums and may or may not know all of the words to just about every single song.

I cannot even tell you how amazing they were. Adam Levine is one sexy, sexy man.

They played all of their hits, which was fantastic. I taped most of them, but I’ll only share the two best quality and the two with surprise GUEST appearances!

I was sort of obsessed with The Voice, so this was really cool. I had a huge hunch that it was going to happen, but I still kind of lost my shit got excited when he came out.

And finally… “Leather and Lace” with STEVIE NICKS!

That was really exciting. What a cool surprise!

I lead a pretty great life.

Who have been some of the best bands/ musicians you’ve seen in concert? I’m going to have to say Hanson is my all-time best live experience (they’re so amazing live), but Train and Maroon 5 are up there too. I also saw Savage Garden live years and years ago and remember being impressed with how great they were live. Random!

Never Say Never

Okay.

I don’t want you guys to think I have bad taste.

Really, I don’t. Which is why it’s totally ridiculous that I never share the new GOOD music I like (such as the new Adele song that I am obsessed with). No, instead, I’m sharing with you that I am kind-of-sort-of addicted to the new Justin Bieber song.

You know the one I’m talking about.

Also, Amanda and I are g-chatting right now (as we do) and we both just discovered that we’re blogging about good ol’ (young?) JB at the same time, so… that’s weird. And a little awesome.

Anyway, you didn’t come here to teenybop (or did you?). I’ll get to the good stuff.

You should be proud of me. No, really you should. Why? Because, this morning, I DIDN’T GO TO THE GYM. Now, I know this is kind of a weird thing to be proud of, but I really wanted to go to spin this morning and, with the help of my trusty roommate’s stern words (and looks), I realized that two aching knees were two pretty solid reminders that I need to take it easy.

It was a big day.

I actually am really going to try to kind of back off of working out for a little while (please picture me pouting right now, but it was discussed with my PT) because my knees kind of keep getting worse instead of better and I’m not going to PT for my health.

Oh, wait, I am. Never mind.

So, breakfast on Tuesday was so good that I had to repeat it. Also, I’m still not feeling the overnight oats.

Pretty much the same deal, but minus the pecans and with 2% Pineapple Chobani (still so much love) instead of 0% Strawberry.

While it still kind of resembles a parfait:

For lunch, I had what I was hoping would be a fantastic salad (sometimes “everything but the kitchen sink” salads are the best ones), but it was actually just kind of weird.

Boo.

Into the mix went:

  • bed of baby greens
  • 1 clementine, in pieces
  • 1 kumato, diced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1 serving chickpeas
  • TJ’s Spicy Asian Peanut Dressing

At least it looked pretty, right?

I’ve found that having colorful meals is really important to me. I’m not doing too badly today!

Alright, now spill. Who else is secretly enjoying “Never Say Never?”

I Saw The Sign

Today was the first time I ever saw that video. Wow. Somebody please confirm for me that this is the real video, because it is EPIC. I am proud to have it on my blog.

Okay, enough procrastinating my point…

I was looking for a sign to see if I could run the Turkey Trot next week, and I guess I got it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t quite the sign I was hoping for. I felt noticeable pain in my achilles tendon when jogging in place at boot camp this morning. Pain I haven’t felt in about two weeks. I don’t know why the pain has returned, but I do know that I’m definitely not happy about it.

As of right now, the plan is to try a small test run this weekend and see how it goes. I’ll admit, though, I don’t have high hopes. I’m thinking this probably means I can’t run the race next week. Because I’m stubborn and can’t fully admit this to myself (or you) yet, I’m not making any absolute declarations. However, I am starting to realize that I will most likely eventually decide not to run the race. Time is, in case you haven’t noticed, kind of running out.

Sigh.

Anyway, I had a very simple dinner last night of roasted veggies and chicken, but it was made special by the addition of Garlic Gold nuggets (!!).

I just got some Garlic Gold samples in the mail and I was so, so excited to try them. I’ll write more about them after I’ve tried some more of the samples. 🙂

I drizzled some broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and onions with EVOO and sprinkled the mix with Garlic Gold nuggets, salt, pepper, and grated parmesan & romano. I then roasted it all at 400 degrees for about 25 minutes. Normally, I’d roast them for longer, but… I was hungry. I also warmed up some pre-cooked grilled chicken (from TJ’s, obviously) and threw the heated chicken into the roasted veggies.

So simple and so full of flavor. So far, I’m a huge fan of those nuggets!

Breakfast this morning, post-frustrating-workout, was a yogurt parfait on-the-go.

Fortunately, Mark’s been saving all of his nearly-empty peanut butter jars for me (and trust me, he goes through a lot.) Unfortunately, they don’t make for the most photogenic containers. I was also in such a rush this morning that I didn’t try very hard to make it pretty.

Into the mix went:

  • 3/4 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt
  • 1 tsp pumpkin butter (mixed into the yogurt to create pumpkin yogurt – awesome)
  • handful Go Lean Crunch! Honey Almond Flax
  • 2 big strawberries, sliced
  • 1/8 cup blueberries
  • 1/3 pear, chopped
  • the tiny amount of PB in the jar (maybe 1/2 tsp?)

As soon as I took those pictures, I ran out the door because my car and I had an appointment. As a result, this funny-looking parfait was consumed at the auto shop while my car was being inspected. I may have looked a little crazy to the other people at the shop, but I was okay with it.

The Club Can’t Even Handle Me Right Now

It’s Amanda‘s fault, really.

On the Saturday night of the Foodbuzz Festival, under the influence of good friends, good food and good wine, Amanda was feeling especially fun and silly and kept saying “the club can’t even handle me right now.” Pretty much ever since, I’ve been obsessed with this song.

I am responsible for roughly half of that video’s YouTube views. I’ve had that song on repeat all morning. Oh, well. At least it’s a break from the Christmas music I’ve already entirely immersed myself in.

That’s a lie. Now that I brought up Christmas music, I have officially switched back to my Pandora Christmas station.

I have such a problem.

This is a fairly food-free post (as many have been lately… hmm…), as I went out for drinks last night and just went home afterward and made one egg with a piece of toast.

Exciting.

However, the drinks were especially exciting because I was meeting up with a friend I hadn’t seen since middle school! We found each other on Twitter and realized we were living in the same city, so we made plans. Ahh, the powers of social media.

Anyway, I was definitely only capable (or desiring) of having one beer (a Napa Wheat) last night, so waking up bright and early this morning for the gym was no biggie. The strength class I took was one of the hardest I’ve taken in a while. It was pretty high intensity for a strength class! (Read: I loved it.)

I haven’t been craving smoothies all that often lately, given the cooler weather, but there was no question in my mind this morning that I’d be having a SIAB for breakfast. It just felt right.

Enter: a new take on the Mocha Coconut “Frapp” smoothie.

Into the mix went:

  • 3 ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1 heaping tbs nonfat plain greek yogurt
  • big handful fresh baby spinach
  • 1/2 scoop Jay Robb’s Chocolate Egg White Protein Powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 packet instant coffee
  • 1 capful coconut extract

On top:

  • ~3/4 tbs warmed coconut butter
  • big handful Shredded Oats

The egg white protein powder was new to me, as Mark let me try his, and I liked it a lot. I don’t know if I would personally purchase an egg white protein powder, though, considering how much protein I get from eggs otherwise. I think whey protein powders might be best for me.

Since I used chocolate protein powder, there was no need for added cocoa today, which meant that the smoothie maintained a green color, which somehow always makes me feel a little healthier. It’s all in my head, obviously. I know the spinach is there whether the smoothie is green or not.

Tuesday Morning Workout
