Allow me to begin by saying that yesterday’s flight can go down in history as one of the most obnoxious flights, EVER.

To my left: a girl so sick she was hacking up her lungs… in my direction.

To my right: another girl with a cold, though she was thankfully more considerate.

Three people down, to my right: a girl with a dog that wouldn’t stop whimpering and yapping throughout the flight.

Directly behind me: a screeching, crying little boy who decided to entertain himself by kicking my seat… and whose parents felt no need to stop him (despite my dirty, dirty looks).

Behind me to my right: a bickering couple.

And, to top it all off… JetBlue advertises 36 channels, but they majorly failed yesterday. Twelve channels, all network & no cable, on a Sunday night, plus no radio, with no concern whatsoever from the crew members that this was happening? Yea. Try again, JetBlue. Try again. I don’t care if I have “some” channels. I was promised 36 and with the need for noise distraction from everything around me on that flight, I was not happy at all.

I was not sorry to see that flight end.

Anyway, in the interest of getting my life right back into the swing of things, I stopped at Trader Joe’s on my ride home from the airport to pick up my groceries for the week.

I didn’t need to eat dinner at home, though, because I had enjoyed this lovely sandwich (very similar to the one the day before), made at my grandparents’ house earlier that day, on the plane. (Just about the only thing I enjoyed on that plane.)

Roast beef, cheddar, baby spinach, salt & pepper on rye.

Soooo yummy, but I have had a way-above-average amount of red meat in the last week or so and I think I’m going to take a break for a little while.

As I fell asleep last night, I noticed that I seemed to be getting a sore throat. I woke up throughout the night and this morning with that scratchy feeling still present, but not getting that noticeably worse. It’s still there. I’m trying to tell myself that I just scratched my throat and am not getting sick, because I absolutely cannot get sick this week. It would be the worst timing. The worst. Send me happy thoughts.

I just drank an emergen-c, even knowing it would make me sick (sugar-wise) due to the maltodextrin in the ingredient list. I decided I’d prefer to have the debilitating stomachache for the day over a week of having a cold and wondering if I could have done more to stop it. I’m sure I’ll regret this decision once that stomachache kicks in.

I went to the gym anyway, obviously. After three days off, I was pretty psyched to get back… except that I accidentally overslept! I have never moved so quickly to get to the gym before. I woke up the minute the class started and was there only ten minutes later. That’s usually the amount of time it takes me to get out of the house!

Since I was late, I only got 35 rather than 45 minutes of boot camp in. I also did 50 minutes on the elliptical. I decided to just let it be a lighter workout this morning, because I don’t want to over-exert myself in case I’m getting sick. Might as well be smart about it, right?

I have an appointment tomorrow morning, so I’ll probably be skipping tomorrow’s workout, too. Eeesh. So many days off!

In the interest of loading up on good-for-me, cold-fighting foods, I had the most amazing smoothie ever this morning. I am not exaggerating.

This smoothie was SO GOOD that it would convert even my greatest doubters (Andrea).

Try it. Today. Seriously.

It’s so good, I’m highlighting it as a recipe.

Tropical Smoothie

Into the mix went:

  • 3 ice cubes
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
  • 1/8 cup nonfat plain greek yogurt
  • 1 big handful baby spinach
  • 1/2 packet Jay Robb’s Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/3 cup frozen mango
  • 1/4 cup crushed pineapple, unsweetened

Oh. My. GOODNESS.

This was so creamy, it was practically frozen yogurt. With a coconut butter drizzle and some Kashi Go Lean Crunch! Honey Almond Flax (not entirely sugar-free, by the way – it has evaporated cane juice listed amongst its ingredients. Whoops!), this was out. of. this. world.

Anyway, I’m now back at work and catching up, since I missed Friday.

I miss these faces.

At least I know I’ll be back. I can’t stay away!

Did they have ABC on the plane? I hear that AVP game had some really killer commercials 🙂

  2. Hahahah I hear they did, too. And no, ABC was unfortunately NOT one of the channels listed. ESPN was, but I am not a fan of watching most sports on TV. Especially not alone while on a plane!
